These days missing keys usually means a new ECU because of the immobilisers. Then with the paint and body stuff it could get pretty expensive.

You can just get a new key from Lotus, or Toyota, however that works.$400 max.

And I'm guessing a new back piece with paint doesn't cost too much. $19k wrapped up in it max.

Hmm I was researching about my car because my immobiliser chip failed on my key fob (I just use the spare) and they said if you lost all of the keys it'd be a new ECU or in my case I could just buy a new fob since they pull the code from the spare key.

That's glass half empty

Glass half full means you can buy a repair a brand new G Wagon for half the price.

I've never heard that before.

When I lost my S2k keys, I bought the key from Honda ($20) and then paid a mobile diagnostics guy to come code it to the car for ($80)

On my BMW, they wanted $330 for the key programmed to the car. Keys can always be coded to cars, I don't think a new ECU is ever needed.

On my Subaru, I bought the cool STI key for $30, which has no immobilizer, and took to Ace Hardware. Done.

eh. Normally I'd agree but they're asking $70k and I'm pretty sure every body panel needs replacement.

Yeah, I didn't actually look at the car before replying.

I only look for ones that can be fixed easily. More ambitious people than I might buy that.

... or this one. Which, honestly, looks fine - other than the hail damage. That'd still be one heck of a fun ride.

Also makes me wonder what the heck is wrong with this truck: http://prosalvage.com/vehiclesDetail…

It doesn't look overly damaged...
